Arranging No-Hassle Rides!

Since rolling out the first version of ride arrangements in October, we’ve helped thousands of people share trips and learned tons in the process. Based on feedback from our stellar community, we’ve streamlined our arrangement system and made it 10x simpler to book and pay for rides on Ridejoy!

Our improved, no-hassle process lets either the driver or the passenger make the first move in confirming the ride and should make things much more clear for both sides. And remember, you can only get reviewed on rides that are booked through Ridejoy

Introducing Reviews & References

How Ridejoy Builds Trust and Respect

Ridejoy is a community built on trust and respect. We want you to be confident that when you arrange a ride on Ridejoy, you’re going to have a great trip and get where you need to go!

Today, every Ridejoy user connects with Facebook, automatically linking key parts of their identity (first name, last initial, photo and number of Facebook friends) to their Ridejoy profile. The vast majority of people choose to share more details about themselves including age range, work & education history, and personal bio. We even show if you have mutual Facebook friends with another Ridejoy user.

Our New Feature: Reviews & References

Today we’re very excited to announce the launch of Reviews and References: a two-for-one feature that brings a strong reputation and accountability system to our community. The end result? The confidence that you can get can an awesomely fun, safe and reliable ride on Ridejoy. Let’s take a closer look:

Q: What are Reviews?

A: Reviews are specific feedback given by users who have arranged a ride on Ridejoy. If you arrange a ride on Ridejoy, after the trip is over – you will have the option of leaving your driver/passenger a review including how the trip went and whether you’d recommend this person in the future. This feedback will show up on their Ridejoy profile for future trips posted by that user.

Q: What are References?

A: References are general endorsements given by friends/colleagues of a Ridejoy user.Users invite their friends on Facebook or Ridejoy to write a reference endorsing them as a driver, passenger and fellow human bean. After reading and approving the reference, it goes up on that users Ridejoy profile, next to their reviews.

Q: What’s the difference between the two?

A: Reviews are specifically for arranged rides and permanent. References are from facebook friends and optional.

Reviews are only available for rides arranged on Ridejoy using our Ride Arrangement process. This means if you took the conversation to email or phone or otherwise didn’t finalize the ride using a Ride Arrangement, you won’t be able to leave a review.

References are sent as requests to the Facebook friends of a Ridejoy user and that user gets to approve (or not approve) the feedback before it is displayed on their profile

So that’s a little bit about reviews and references. If you’re a Ridejoy user and want to leave a review click here (and if you’d like to request a reference, click here).

Want to get more details on how to do it? We’ve made walk throughs for both requesting references and leaving reviews:

How to Get a Reference on Ridejoy (Tutorial)

So you’re interested in getting the inside scoop on how you can request a reference on Ridejoy? Well you’ve come to the right place! We’ve got step by step instructions on how references work.

If you’re trying to get info on references (and reviews) in general, click here. Everyone else, on to the tutorial!

What it looks like to request a reference on Ridejoy

1. Getting to the references page

In this example I’ll be asking my friend Bilal for a reference. I start by heading to my references page (ridejoy.com/references), you can also find it as a link on your dashboard. Then I hit that blue button!

2. Sending the reference request

Once I hit the button, I see the pop up box that I’ll use to send messages to my friend Bilal on Facebook. This box can support more than one friend so if you’d like to invite a few dozen, that’s cool with us. =) In this case, I’m just going to invite my friend Bilal, whom I’ve taken a road trip with down to LA, to write a reference for me on Ridejoy.

There’s a place for me to add a custom message to Bilal and look over the explanation and link we’ve attached to the Facebook message. When Bilal get your messages, he’ll be taken to a page where he’ll need to login into Ridejoy (or create an account) before he can leave the reference.

3. Receiving the request

Once Bilal gets the message and writes me a reference, I get an email from Ridejoy letting me know of my new reference. I can also tell I have a new reference because there will be a (1) next “References” on my Ridejoy dashboard.

4. That email will take me back to your references page where I can review the reference before I approve it. Looks like Bilal thought I’m an alright passenger!

5. Check out that shiny new reference!

This review will now show up on your profile in the reputation section. Now whenever I post a ride offer or request or message another Ridejoy user about a ride, they’ll see the reference Bilal made for me. Neat huh?

What it looks like to receive a reference request

1. Receive reference request

Your friend receives a message from you asking you for a reference. In this case my friend David has requested I write a review on Ridejoy.

2. Write the reference

Clicking the blue link takes me to Ridejoy. If I were a new user, I’d need to connect with Facebook to create a Ridejoy account, but since I already have one, it takes me to a screen where I can start writing my reference. We’ve offered some guidelines but feel to write whatever makes the most sense to you!

And that’s it! Below are some handy links to other page you might want to check out!

How to Leave a Review on Ridejoy

So you’re interested in getting the inside scoop on how you can leave a review on Ridejoy eh? Well you’ve come to the right place! We’ve got step by step instructions on how reviews work.

If you’re trying to get info on references (and reviews) in general, click here. Everyone else, on to the tutorial!

Leaving a Review

1. Finding your reviews

In this example, Kalvin is going to leave a review for a trip he took with Suelyn in November. To leave a review, he’ll start by heading to his review page on Ridejoy (ridejoy.com/reviews). Once on that page, he’ll see a list of rides he’s arranged and confirmed, including one with Nishant and one with Suelyn.

2. Writing the review

Kalvin clicks on “Write a review for Suelyn” to get to the review form, where he can write in details from his trip  and indicate whether he’d ride with her again. (Looks like this trip was a success!) He makes sure to double check the review before he hits submit because it will post immediately.

3. You’re done!

Now the reputation of Suelyn’s profile has a review from Kalvin. This review will be visible on every ride post she makes and anytime she messages someone about a ride – letting people know she’s an awesome person to share a trip with!

And that’s it! Below are some handy links to other page you might want to check out!

New Ways to Promote Your Ride!

At Ridejoy we’re always thinking about better ways to help you find new friends to share rides with. One of the key things about arranging a great rideshare is connecting with the people going in the same direction as you. The more you can broadcast that to the world, the greater the chance you’ll have at securing your rideshare.

That’s why we include buttons to share your ride on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ at the top right hand corner of every ride. And of course you can always post a link to your ride in an email or any other online service that shares links.

Today we’re announcing a new way to promote your ride and that’s by posting it to a major rideshare board where even more drivers and riders can check out your ride. See our video below for more information about this new feature!

Definitely let us know what you think about this new feature and we hope it helps you with your rideshare adventures!
